Chester Thornless Blackberry is a compact deciduous shrub with a semi-upright habit. Its extra large and sweet fruits are high quality sweet fruits and ready for harvest in mid summer. Fruits best in full sun and rich, moist, slightly acidic well-drained soils. Chester is self-pollinating and has good cane blight resistance. Has a chill requirement of 300-500 hours.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS: Medium Maintenance. Water regularly. Remove fruiting canes to the ground immediately after harvest, non-fruiting canes can be tip pruned in summer. Generally performs best when staked. Wilt, Anthracnose, and botrytis can be serious disease problems. Cane and crown borers are potential pest issues.
